About Ilima

Early rendering 2 of Ilima at Ward Village

'Ilima is the current name given to the proposed Block E development in Ward Village, a master-planned community developed by the Howard Hughes corporation. They are partnering with Discovery Land Company and Robert A.M. Stern Architects for the development of 'Ilima, with interior design by Champalimaud Design.

According to submitted documents, Ilima’s façade and structure design are inspired by local architects and traditional styles that are intended to present a seamless transition from the majestic towers to the vibrant streets, embodying the spirit of both past and present Hawaii. With just over 81,000 Sq. Ft. dedicated to recreational space and over 7,000 Sq. Ft. in ground-floor commercial activities, Ilima intends to balance private living with community engagement.

Ilima will signify the next phase in the evolution of Ward Village, standing as a beacon of the community's commitment to revitalization. With ground-level landscaping and pedestrian-friendly streetscapes on Auahi Street and Queen Street, the development will enhance the pedestrian experience for all members of the neighborhood with landscape design by VITA Planning & Landscape Architecture. One such example is a ‘botanical garden’ pathway that will run from the IBM Building to Diamond Head Plaza Park, with over 14 species of native Hawaiian plants in the permit application.
