In Hawaiian, “wai honua’ translates to ‘Waters Of The Earth.’ This is a reference to how the land in Kakaako was used in previous times for holding ponds where fish were bred and raised. Other natural resources in the area, such as Hala, were utilized in everyday activities - creating a place where aloha flourished and the people had a connection to the land.
Waihonua's developers have attempted to preserve this connection in the design of this tower.

Where Is Waihonua?
Waihonua is located on the southeastern border of the Kakaako area in Honolulu. Dubbed the Kakaako-Ala Moana corridor, the strip where this tower is constructed has easy access to some of the best of both areas - including the Ala Moana Beach, shopping centers, and more.
To the west is Ward Village, a 60-acre master-planned Kakaako community full of shopping centers, boutique restaurants, shops, residential towers, and open green spaces. Ward Village first broke ground in January 2011, with new residentials towers both planned and currently under construction.
To the east is Ala Moana, a mixed-use district that features a popular beach and several residential condo towers. One of the most prominent features of this area is the Ala Moana Center, the largest open-air shopping center in the world.

Waihonua means “waters of the earth,” a reference to the ponds and taro fields that once made up the area. The entryway itself invokes a contemporary twist on the ponds used to raise fish that once stood in the same spot.
