Waialae Nui is a ridge community developed in the late 1950s, offering dramatic views in close proximity to downtown Honolulu, beaches, and outdoors opportunities. This community is made of three distinct sections, with the homes in lower portions being the oldest. Each of the three sections has their own unique feel to them, but they all share a growing popularity in the real estate world.
Location
Waialae Nui is located just north of Kahala, between Waialae Iki to the east and Wilhelmina Rise to the west. This is one of my favorite ridge communities specifically because of the size - it’s smaller and more intimate than the other ridge neighborhoods. Despite this, it is still home to a community center with a pool, basketball court, and meeting rooms that are available for a small association fee.
The homes at the summit could be considered some of the best mountain real estate on Oahu. As you head to the top, many of the properties along the way offer gorgeous views. One of the most notable features of this neighborhood is that there is a five degree temperature difference between properties at the bottom and at the top of the ridge.
Utility lines have been hidden underground to prevent spoiling the view as you head up the ridge and many of the lower section homes enjoy access to natural gas lines. This neighborhood is very conveniently located for visiting the Kahala mall.
